Mom and women's leadership coach Nisha Moodley recently ignited a hot debate among parents after sharing an Instagram post about how she asks permission to pick up her infant son.
?Since the moment he was born, we've always asked before we pick him up,? Moodley wrote in the controversial post. ?I always feel for his 'yes.' Why" Because we want him to know that his body is his, and that others' bodies are theirs, and no one gets to make choices about someone else's body.? While I love her message about being in control of your own body, I?ll admit after three kids, it never occurred to me to that picking up your baby required permission. Even now, I?ll hug and playfully tickle my children, often without seeking their explicit authorization. I guess I figure I?m their mom, and we are on that level.
