Meijer recalls packaged vegetables for possible listeria contamination

Meijer Inc. has announced a recall of packaged vegetables in six U.S. states due to potential contamination of listeria monocytogens bacteria. This can cause serious and even fatal infections in young children, pregnant women, frail or elderly people and those with weakened immune systems.
Meijer received notice of a possible contamination from Mann Packing-- a Meijer supplier based in Salinas, California ? which sources the Meijer branded produce items, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (USDA.) As of Sunday, Meijer, which is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, said no illnesses have been reported.
Description
This recall affects 35 vegetable products, including cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, and party trays sold in Meijer-branded plastic or foam packing in the following states: Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. According to the FDA, healthy individuals infected with listeria monocytogens bacteria may suffer short-term symptoms -- like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
