Memo to moms: It's OK to take a pass on the resolutions
by Deidra Romero posted in Parenting
Sometimes as a mom, when you're really in the trenches?potty training, breastfeeding, working through hard disciplinary seasons?thinking about next month is daunting, let alone an entire year full of commitments.
During those early, new mom years, I always found myself baffled on December 31st.
What do I want to change"
Honestly, the list is so long, I can't even get past the question. Of course I want to be more frugal, more creative, more productive, more organized, healthier. I want to be all those things all the time.
At that point in my life, I just couldn't. I couldn't expend any more mental energy than what was required to get me through the week. I knew my life was completely out of balance and crazy. But sometimes you just have to focus on what's right in front of you. That's how I've felt for the last five years with my small children.
But now that my kids are a bit older and more independent, I'm finding the bandwidth to look out further into the future. It really has nothing to do with me and some big change I made. It has everything to do with this season of life.
This is the first year in a long time that I've been able to even think about resolutions. The last few years have been a blur of sleep deprivation, pregnancy, and newborn fog. And I've loved it all.
Listen close, friends:
It is okay if you can't meal plan past this week.
It is okay if the toys are a mess and your closet looks like a war zone.
It is okay ...
