My baby's first haircut, but not my first mom tears
by Maggie Downs posted in Life
I?m discovering a pattern in my parenting: I?m reluctant to let my baby grow up.
It was true when he was ready to give up nursing but I wasn?t. And it was true the day I dropped him off at daycare and he didn?t cry when I said goodbye, so I cried for him, sitting in my car.
And it was true that I let his hair grow wild and unmanageable, and I did it on purpose. This felt like the very last thing -- his transition from baby to boyhood.
When it was all over, he looked good. More mature, definitely. But also more comfortable and stylish.
"Are you still my baby"" I sniffled.
"No," he said.
