My baby monitor cured my need to hover over my sleeping baby

It's no news to anyone that new parenthood is stressful. Everyone talks about the exhaustion, constant diaper changing, and feeding challenges. Rarely do folks talk about the anxiety that shows up every time your baby goes to sleep. I mean, I know I can't be the only person who checks in on her baby every few minutes when he's sleeping to make sure he's still breathing.
I never figured I'd be a helicopter parent. But whenever my baby is sleeping, I find myself wanting to hover around his bassinet until he wakes up. When we first brought him home a couple of months ago, I wouldn't leave him alone. The only exception was a quick shower. Afterwards, I'd be back circling him until he woke up.
My husband was not pleased that we'd have to relocate our movie watching, conversations, and even meals to the bedroom whenever the baby was tired. I never even really considered a baby monitor, but my husband convinced me that it would be a smart and easy way to watch over the baby.
