My birth control gave me blood clots...and now I'm pregnant!

When I was a teenager, my periods were a nightmare. I was that girl who always had 6 days a month when I was so crampy I couldn't move. My doctor put me on birth control to help control these awful periods and I never looked back.
In college, I moved away from the daily pills and tried other versions: Depo (the WORST) and the ring. Basically, I did whatever I needed to do to keep these monster periods at bay. After having my third child at 27, the doctor suggested the Implanon, a little rod that was implanted in my arm. Three years later, my body needed a break from the crazy birth control methods and my doctor prescribed just plain old birth control pills again...or so I thought.
A few months into taking the pill, I started getting weird pains in my legs. I brushed it off, thinking it was just from traveling a lot over the summer. Finally, after a week of my legs feeling like they were constantly asleep, I took my concerns to Facebook. Since I have a lot of doctor and nurse friends, I figured they might know what was up. WebMD was telling me I had blood clots, but that sounded too scary. Welp, WebMD was actually right on and my friends confirmed that I needed to get to the hospital ASAP. Still in disbelief, since I only had a few of the signs, I strolled into Urgent Care thinking it was going to be no big deal.
