My child is perfectly average, and I?m perfectly okay with that

I had a baby. Even Wonder Woman hasn't done that.
I grew said baby inside me until he was ready to be born. My abdomen was cut open with a scalpel. Then I fed him with my body. It?s pretty amazing, if you think about it.
Whether you give birth, adopt, use a surrogate, or a giant stork drops a baby onto your porch, having a child is a wondrous journey. I assumed that in itself was the victory and the rest was just gravy. Then I met other parents and learned my assumption was wrong. Very, very wrong.
It?s no longer enough to be proud of your child's mere existence. You kid needs to speak three languages. Run marathons. Make the world?s best Beef Wellington. Then you need to tell everyone about it, using hashtags on social media pointing out that you have a #giftedchild.
Yes, I also share moments from my son?s life on social media. When he began walking. Saying a word. Trying to draw a picture but eating a crayon instead. There was nothing extraordinary about any of these -- not to anyone beyond my family, that is. But I thought it was wonderful. To me these events are worthy of sharing, just a kid being a regular kid.
At times I question if I?m among the minority for thinking this. Apparently it?s not okay to simply post a photo or video of your child walking. Your child needs to be walking months before the recommended timeline and you need to make that abundantly clear. Saying a word" That?s cute, but don?t flood my Instagram un...
