Last week, after the second day of school, I heard the words that no parent ever wants to hear -- ever. ?Mom, that man hurt me.?
You see, our small community has an adorable bus fleet of older retired gentlemen who shuffle people to and from town. These little white buses carry other elderly, or handicapped, people needing to go to wherever they go within a 5-mile radius of town. And, it?s ridiculously affordable -- $1.
But perhaps even more important than giving potentially house-ridden individuals a little bit of freedom, is the service they provide for children needing to go from preschool or junior kindergarten to daycare, or home.
We have used this service before and had no problems. Seeing these older men with the children is adorable and always warmed my heart. Then, we had the incident. I?ll admit, this whole conundrum started with my mistake. With the start of a new school year, I needed to fill out new forms for George (3) and Frankie (5) to ride the bus from school to where I would be in town each day. Unfortunately, with my pregnant brain, I accidentally wrote 805 instead of 801 for a street address. But, in my defense, I did give my cell phone number (and my husband?s) if there was any concern or confusion.
Well, minutes after school let out, I walked outside waiting for Frankie and the bus. I waited and waited and eventually got a call on my cell phone from the school secretary, ?Hey, Whitney. Frankie was crying and...
