In a little less than a month, my son Jamie will turn 1. To commemorate his birthday, he decided to give us a present. Three days ago, my 11-month-old started walking.
Before I go too far into this, let me just say that I'm incredibly proud of this little guy. He's accomplished a lot in his short life. He started with rolling over, then crawling, and now walking. That's pretty impressive!
That being said, a walking baby is different than a crawling baby. My son has totally changed in the last few days. He's way more confident, and much more determined and able to get the things that he wants. My baby is becoming a big boy, and I don't think any of us was ready.

Our baby-proofing needs a little work. Although we baby-proofed our house months ago, now that Jamie is upright and mobile we see there are several places we missed. Watching him take tumbles from a walking position showed us all of the different opportunities there was for him to crack his head open in our home. Needless to say, the last couple of days have been enlightening, and we've been working hard to make sure this home is safe for him now that he's walking.
Babies walk faster than you'd think.
