My toddler made my keys vanish and left us stranded (sort of)

My child rid me of my car keys. He didn?t misplace them. Or even lose them, really. He made them vanish into the universe. He?s like a wizard, except no one really wants his brand of magic.
As a result, we were (somewhat) stranded for hours. My husband and I spent $300 to have a new set made. And I still have to return to the dealership to have our spare keys reprogrammed.Which, by the way, won't be free of charge.

Let me set the stage for how this debacle played out. My son and I took a mid-week trip to visit my parents. Unfortunately, my husband had to stay home and work, so it was just us. One set of keys. On our last day, as we were preparing to leave, I had my keys dangling out of my back pocket. So as to not lose them. Foreshadowing, maybe" Yes. Yes, it was.
My son saw the keys. Shiny. Forbidden. Calling out to him, no doubt. He ran over and grabbed them. There were three adults in the room, we were less than 20 feet from the door. It seemed like a good distraction as I put the final bags in the car. What could go wrong"
