No, my husband isn't "helping me" with the baby
by Jamie Reed posted in Parenting
The six months I was public with my pregnancy afforded me more attention than I?ve ever had in my life. Everyone wanted to ask how I was feeling, if I was excited, and how I was going to decorate the nursery.
My poor husband, no one cared about him at all! If anyone did approach him, it was usually to ask about me, or to remind him how his life was about to change (helpful, thanks).
And now that the baby is here" Well, no one cares how I?m doing any more, other than to ask if I?m tired! (The answer is yes.) As for my husband, he gets a lot of ?Are you helping Jamie with the baby"?. The answer to that" A big NO.
No, my husband isn?t helping me by getting up in the middle of the night for feedings. He isn?t helping me by changing diapers or fixing bottles. He isn?t even helping me by installing car seats or playing with our sweet baby. What my husband is doing, is taking care of our baby along with me. He?s changing diapers because diapers need to be changed. He?s staying up late for midnight feedings because, well, the baby needs to be fed. He?s rocking him to sleep, not because he?s ?helping? me, but because this is his baby too! He's being a parent.
The look of true love.
I understand where the question comes from, the majority of the women asking are older ladies from church, who probably were lucky to get help from their husbands with the baby. I know the situation is different for every family, but I?m glad my husban...
