No, my scheduled c-section was not "just like a spa day"
by Becky Vieira posted in Pregnancy
About halfway through my pregnancy I learned that my son would need to be delivered via c-section. It was at the strong recommendation of my OB-gyn and several specialists, and it was not a decision that was made lightly.
I was judged for it, and told by many people -- none of whom had reviewed my personal medical records -- that I was ?making a terrible mistake.? Oh, and did I mention that not one was a medical professional" I learned quickly to just shut down the c-section shamers. It wasn't open for discussion and I made that clear. But then a new phenomenon began. It was both strongly implied and flat-out stated that I was taking the easy way out by not having a vaginal delivery.
Allegedly I was putting my own needs first, accused of trying to selfishly sidestep potential pain (and vaginal tearing) by pulling the ejector cord before the airplane of motherhood even took off. Or so I was told.
