Over 25,000 baby gates recalled for strangulation and entrapment hazards
by Michelle Stein posted in Products
Attention, caregivers: Madison Mill has announced a recall affecting more than 25,000 of its foldaway expandable safety gates.
Approximately 25,180 gates have been recalled in the U.S. -- in addition to 68,400 sold in Canada -- for two important reasons, according to the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC.)
A young child's neck can fit into the "V" shaped opening along the top edge of the gates, posing strangulation and entrapment hazards.
Young children can pass under the gates, allowing them access to restricted areas (like stairs.)
Fortunately, there have been no reported incidents or injuries so far.
Product description
This recall includes the Madison Mill 23 and 25 foldaway expandable safety gates. (Item number 23 extends to 3 feet and item number 25 extends to 5 feet.) These expandable gates are made of hardwood and used to secure children or small pets in certain areas of the home. The model and item number can be found on the original packaging.
Affected gates were sold for $20-$35 at Do It Best stores and other independent hardware stores nationwide from January 2013 through May 2017.
