Perfectly pleasing patriotic pancakes are a treat any day of the year

I did not expect these pancakes to be so good.
You know when you make some novelty kinds of food for holidays -- like pumpkin cookies for Halloween, or certain birthday cakes -- and you make them more for how they look and the fact that they fit the theme than because they actually taste good" I'm not the only person who does this, am I"
But these red, white, and blue-berry pancakes are festive annnnnnnd yummy. Certainly yummy enough to make on days that aren't patriotic holidays. And days that are. All pancakes, all the time! Life is short!
Making breakfasts like this might be one of my favorite parts of summer, actually. Those slow, sleepy mornings when we all get up and make a nice meal and take our time eating out on the back deck. I love those mornings. That's when you know you're on vacation.
Ingredients:Â
your favorite pancake mix (either storebought or made from scratch)
1 c whole blueberries, fresh or frozen and thawed
1 c strawberries, fresh and cut in quarters, or frozen and thawed
1/4 c sugar
1/4 c water
For the pancakes:
Make pancakes according to package instructions (or make from scratch, according to your recipe.) Add 1 c blueberries and stir. Don't worry about smashing the blueberries -- you want a few smushed in there to turn your batter a slightly bluish color. Cook pancakes on a frying pan or griddle over medium low heat until they're cooked through.
