Photo: What it's like to wet-nurse your friend's baby

Mom of four Elizabeth Bauer never imagined breastfeeding a baby that wasn't hers -- and yet, that's exactly what she ended up doing just a few days ago.
On Friday evening, Bauer's friend Hannah was visiting with her 4-month-old daughter, Kaitlyn. The close friends/neighbors were hanging out when Hannah mentioned Kaitlyn hadn't been feeling well; her formula-fed baby wasn't eating very much at all. And when she did, most of it would come right back up.
"I suggested to her that she could try a bag of my breast milk if she wanted to, because it might settle on her belly better," said Bauer, who breastfeeds her 11-month-old son. "She said that would be great. We made her a bottle while they were there and she asked me if she could take a few bags with her for the night to see how she does."

The next morning, Hannah brought over Kaitlyn again, saying that she was able to keep down all of the breast milk. Except now she didn't want her formula.
"They were heading to the grocery store, so she asked me if I would keep an eye on her, and I asked her if she minded if I nursed her. And she told me of course she didn't mind," Bauer told BabyCenter. "She started getting fussy while I was nursing my son, so I turned him and then had her latch on. She nursed for about 5 minutes and they both fell asleep."
