Photos: My real and unfiltered life as a mom

Before I became pregnant I had many ideas of what life with kids would look like. Then I actually became a mother and all I envisioned went out the window.
It's far from glamorous. Things rarely go as predicted. And most days end with both my son and I wearing food. In fact, some days I spend more time picking up rogue Cheerios off the floor than I do on my personal hygiene. And no, I'm not saying I smell -- there are just that many Cheerios.
I?ve never shied away from the raw reality of motherhood, and have been chronicling my journey on Instagram. So far I haven?t captured any of the moments I once imagined in my mind, pre-kids. That vision doesn't exist. Real motherhood is messier and harder, but also infinitely better.
I found this in my husband's phone. This was the day after my son's birthday party, we had just come home from the urgent care (all turned out to be okay). The play room is a disaster. He's still in his PJs, I'm in whatever clothes I threw on as we ran out the door. Normally I wouldn't sit still, there's always a million things to do. But in this moment I needed to do this. We both needed it.
Family photos with a toddler are unpredictable at best. Visual proof that you need at least 100 takes to get a good photo with a child. We made the mistake of stopping after only 99.
