There was no lounging around the tree in their PJs all morning for Duchess Kate and Prince William and the kids. Instead, the royal family got up, got dressed and headed out to the traditional Christmas Day service at St. Mark?s Church in Englefield.
Unfortunately, Queen Elizabeth II was unable to join the rest of the family due to a bad cold. While this marks the first year that the 90-year-old monarch has missed the traditional Christmas morning service in the more than 30 years, Buckingham Palace revealed that she would "participate in the royal family Christmas celebrations during the day." Three-year-old Prince George and his little sister Charlotte were no doubt less than thrilled to leave whatever goodies Santa Clause had delivered to go and sit through a formal church service. And as any parent knows, when it comes to getting kids to behave, a polite request or stern word sometimes doesn't quite do the trick.
Add the promise of candy to the mix, though, and things tend to start looking up.
