Rainbow baby image encourages parents not to give up their baby dreams

For Florida parents Laymon and Keisha Hicks, it was very important to capture their baby, Karsyn, in a rainbow-themed photo.
"[We wanted] to portray what's on the other side of a storm," Laymon told BabyCenter in an email.
Last year, the couple's excitement over their first pregnancy vanished when they learned it was not viable. "Ultimately, a D&C (dilation and curettage) would need to be performed. This was not what we expected or wanted to experience," Laymon painfully recounted, adding, "Even more challenging was that the weeks following the surgery, on social media, it appeared that everyone was announcing their pregnancy or revealing the sex of their baby." "It created all of these questions in our mind - why us" Why are we going through this" What did we do wrong" What happened" How did this happen"" he shared, going on to say, "In my role as a professional speaker, I encourage my student audiences to change their perspective and remain positive, and here we were allowing negativity and doubt to creep in. We realized that that's just how life is - that when things don't go one's way, negativity and doubt consume them and often times it is not about what one did or did not do, often times it is just not one's time. We knew we wanted to be parents and it was our prayer."
