I?m never taking my son grocery shopping again.
That?s because the grocery store, a place I once enjoyed, becomes some kind of Dante?s Inferno hellscape with a toddler in tow.
It usually starts out okay. My son looks like this, like he?s just going to sit there, buckled in, and make kindly recommendations about the best brand of artisan pickle.
Inevitably, I end up rushing through the store before anyone has a chance to contact homeland security, and one of two things happens: 1. I forget something integral for our meal, which means I?ll have to make another dog-forsaken trip to the store. 2. I grab a bunch of convenience foods that aren?t very healthy or good.
Something had to change. I wanted more time actually playing with my child and less time pulling my hair out. And I really wanted to stop going to a dozen different grocery stores multiple times each week. Over the past several months, I?ve tried a few different tactics to combat this.
Go to the store when my son is at daycare. This works, but I try to get as much work done during daycare hours, and shopping cuts into that. It?s also rare that I?m able to go straight home in this time frame, so then I have to figure out what to do with the groceries in my hot car.
