Revealed: Your worst childhood fears
by Carolyn Robertson posted in Parenting
My daughter is afraid of the bathtub drain. And I get it, because I was terrified of the very same thing when I was a kid.
Decades later, I still remember scrambling to get out of the tub when the plug was pulled and the water started circling the drain, promising to suck me down the pipe and into the sewers. I'd be stuck there forever. Underground, with the rats.
So when my daughter panics, yet again, at the end of bath time, I don't roll my eyes even though I want to, because I know what that feels like. Childhood fears sometimes don't make sense, but that doesn't mean they're not real.
A bunch of grown-ups got together on Twitter recently to reminisce about their old childhood fears. Here's the Tweet that kicked it off, followed by some of the responses. Do any of these sound frighteningly familiar to you"
When I was a child, I was so afraid that I would die on the Titanic. I was also terrified of someone poisoning the water system. I was also scared of quicksand but let?s not get into that. What was your odd childhood fear"

That my teddy would suffocate in my bed if his head went under the covers....

(Well, if that doesn't just break my heart.)
I used to wake up in the night, terrified that the house was on fire. I would reach out and touch the wall next to my bed. If the wall was cold that would mean the house wasn't on fire.
