Riveting photo: Mom delivers her baby at home, by herself

When I first saw this photo, of a mom comforting her newborn baby, in a bathroom, I could not have imagined the amazing story behind it.
?I sped to this birth only to find this beautiful mumma, sitting on her toilet, breastfeeding her brand new baby girl. She had birthed her moments earlier right there, without assistance from anyone," Cassie Emmett of Capturing Life Birth Photography explained on Facebook when she posted this emotional image.
The mama, Dior, told BabyCenter in an email that her labor had started around 3:00 a.m. "I was thinking, 'Please baby don't come now. Come at a reasonable time so I don't feel bad calling my midwife.'" But because her contractions felt more like tightening, and weren't painful, Dior says, "I just guessed it was very early stages and it could last days." She had planned a home birth anyway, and wasn't in a rush to get to a hospital. At 7:00 a.m., Dior called her midwife, who came by for about half an hour to check her. "I had only had one contraction while she was over." Still, the mama took all the appropriate steps to prepare for her impending birth, including calling her husband Bevin's parents to come look after their 2-year-old, and contacting Cassie.
Of course then, her contractions stopped for some time. A bit later, Dior tells us, "I felt my waters break, [but] at the time I totally forgot about water, and thought I was wetting myself in...
