Roadside delivery: Baby gets name and a year of free diapers from unlikely birthplace
by Whitney Barthel posted in Pregnancy
An hour after being sent home from the hospital for stalled labor, Carmyn and Matt Schrank found themselves speeding back.
As the couple neared the hospital, Carmyn told her husband that something was not right. She urged him to pull over. Matt immediately called 911 and pulled off the interstate and into a Lewis Drug parking lot.
Carmyn told KSFY, ?I looked at Matt and said something is happening, so my water broke and the next contraction I reached down and pulled little Lewis out.?
Thankfully, the hospital ambulance was right behind the couple in pulling into the parking lot and Carmyn knew exactly what to do, as she works full-time as a nurse.
Mom, Dad, and Baby Lewis are all doing great. The family was gifted a year?s worth of diapers from the store that ended up being the baby?s roadside namesake.
The crazy thing is that this is the second roadside birth on I-229 in just a couple of weeks. On May 7th another couple were on their way to the same hospital, on the same road, and ended up delivering a healthy baby girl.
And, even crazier: the same thing almost happened to me not even 18 months ago...on the same road, on my way to the same hospital to deliver my fourth son.
*My husband, me, and little Charlie as we were interviewed by news crews.Thankfully, I made it to the hospital and didn?t need to consider naming my son, Charlie, after a street or store.
