See how a family of 11 makes their 1100 sq ft home work
by Sara McGinnis posted in Life & Home
For many of us, an 1100 square-foot home is on the small side. Ideal, perhaps, for a family of three or four, but what we'd consider too tight of a squeeze for more. Somehow though, the 11-member Shupe family from Skagit Valley, Washington, are making it work just fine.
In a recent blog post on Large Families on Purpose, Bob and Erika gave the curious a photo tour of their 1100 sq-ft residence, in which they raise 15-year-old Karen, 14-year-old Melanie, 10-year-old Brandon, 8-year-old Anna Marie, 7-year-old Riley, 4-year-old Tyler, 3-year-old Spencer and 3-year-old twins Lacey and Lilly.
Take a look inside, and at what Erika had to say about their home:
Erika: "Welcome! We purchased our house in 2004 when it was still under construction. It is a smaller than average 'split level,' 4 bedroom and 3 bathroom, 1,100 sq/ft (plus a 2-car garage), so the rooms are all small... "So here is the main entry way."
"Upstairs to the left is the family room."
"Adjacent is the dining room which seats all 11 of us...
and then the kitchen."
"The main hall. (Each of our children's photos when they are 1-year-old.)"
"Off of the upstairs hallway there is a pantry on the right, and a full bathroom on the left."
"The playroom, computer lab, and school supply & craft storage room. There is currently only one task chair and then we have folding chairs in a corner for others to use...
