Should you wake your baby to change a dirty diaper"

I recently came across a thread on Mumsnet in which a mom wondered if she should wake her sleeping baby to change his poopy diaper. "I would definitely not like to be lying in my own waste all night," she relatably proclaimed.
But her question raised quite a debate, with commenters offering their takes of both sides of the issue. Some insisted changing poo right away is a must, while pee can wait.

One commenter suggested you could change your baby without waking him. In my experience, this works with a very young newborn, but not an older baby. So then you're outta luck.
Another commenter advised waking babies for a diaper change overnight, but leaving it at nap time, which seems reasonable. Yet another person weighed in with the common adage, ?Never wake a sleeping baby!? Like, no matter what. Even if he is caked in his own poop, and reeking up a storm.
But if you?re like me, given the high likelihood that baby would wake with rabid diaper rash, you?d likely lie awake all night worrying about the state of your baby?s buns. Especially if he or she is sleeping in the same room as you, and you have to breathe in the "fragrant" scent. So perhaps a change is in everyone?s best interest for a good night?s sleep.
