Spoiling the grandkids may lead to bad health

They don't mean it, but grandma and grandpa could be harming your children's long-term health if they let your kids indulge in sweet treats and excessive TV time, a review of multiple studies suggests.
Lots of research has focused on how parents' habits affect children's health, but less is known about the influence of grandparents. That's despite the fact that many parents rely on grandparents to help with caregiving.
Scientists in the United Kingdom decided to look into the matter by analyzing 56 existing studies on the lifestyle habits of grandparents taking care of grandchildren part-time. The studies varied in size and approach, and came from 18 different countries. Principally, they focused on habits such as smoking, lack of exercise and unhealthy eating, and how this impacted the health of grandchildren. Children learn lifestyle behaviors early on, and these can influence how healthy they are in the future. Eating badly or not getting enough exercise can increase a child's risk for obesity, cardiovascular disease and even cancer as an adult.
The researchers, who published their findings in the journal PLOS ONE, identified several problem grandparent behaviors that negatively impacted children's weight and eating habits:
? Giving grandkids too many sugary "treats"
? Overfeeding the grandkids
? Letting grandchildren avoid physical activity
