Attention millennial parents: Tamagotchis are back!
Remember those endlessly needy virtual pets from our childhood" Yep. A smaller version of the egg-shaped poop factories will be returning in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Tamagotchi in the U.S. Bandai America will be releasing the device in limited quantities on Nov. 5 -- just in time for the holidays.
"Now, both original fans and new fans can obsess over caring for their Tamagotchi character, and as they do the character will uniquely grow and develop," the announcement reads.
Like the original Tamagotchi, this mini version will come in six different shell designs from the initial Japanese launch, each with six characters. Additionally, it will feature the iconic packaging design of the original. A suggested retail price of $14.99 is tempting enough for millennial parents to shamelessly re-live the glory days of feeding, cleaning and playing with something without any real consequences if we forget. (Unlike our own children.) Because you will forget.
Pretty nifty, huh" As a former digital pet fanatic -- I had handfuls of Tamagotchis, Giga Pets, Nano Pets and other generic devices -- I'm tempted to pre-order one of these gems. Because nostalgia.
?For many Generation X kids, the Tamagotchi device can be considered America?s first and favorite digital pet,? said Tara Badie, marketing director for Bandai America, in a statement on the company's website.
