Tammy Duckworth will make history as the first senator to give birth in office

It's a political baby boom!
Okay, not really.
Yet, on the heels of New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's pregnancy announcement, a U.S. senator from Illinois has revealed some baby news of her own. Sen. Tammy Duckworth will soon make history as the first sitting senator to give birth. You know, because this bad-ass mama hasn't already set enough records as it is.
Duckworth also happened to the first Asian-American woman elected to Congress in Illinois, along with the first disabled woman to be elected from any state. If you remember, Duckworth formerly served in the Illinois Army National Guard and ended up losing both of her legs when her Black Hawk helicopter was shot down in Iraq in 2004. Fun fact: A total of 10 women have given birth while serving in Congress -- including Duckworth, who gave birth to her first daughter, Abigail in 2014 -- but they've all served in the House, rather than the Senate. Duckworth will welcome baby number two (another daughter) in April, just a few weeks after she turns 50.
