Families looking forward to swimming with their children this summer should hear about one family's terrifying experience.
Alex Morgan is speaking out to warn parents of a hidden danger of swimming pools -- one that nearly took her daughter's life. Morgan and her family were on vacation in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, when her 6-year-old daughter nearly drowned in a hotel pool after her hair became stuck in a filter.
"Darcey was swimming underwater when her hair got sucked into the filter that operates a waterfall in the swimming pool," Morgan wrote on Facebook. "Her hair was stuck and she was unable to get up to the surface. She was kept under the water for over 2 minutes. Some incredibly brave people saved our little girl's life that day. Her hair was pulled and pulled before it was ripped."
Darcey was unconscious after she was rescued from the pool; CPR was administered. The little girl was rushed to a hospital, where after undergoing testing and x-rays, she was found to have a significant amount of fluid in her right lung and low oxygen levels.
"Luckily we got to bring Darcey out of hospital the following morning. However, it could have been a completely different ending to our holiday," Morgan wrote. "This was the worst day of our lives. We are still suffering ... but also feel incredibly lucky to still have our beautiful, brave little girl."
