I have a spirited child. Most times with Frankie, my 3-year-old, I am at a loss as to what to do to get him to listen.

Generally, I try to go with a Nanny 911 approach. I do time-outs, alone time in bedrooms, things like that. I usually find their ill behavior is because they are over-tired.
I will be the first to admit I am not skilled at discipline.
However, this morning was a total game-changer.
As I sat Frankie on the potty chair this morning (as our usual routine), huge globs of poop fell to the floor (not usual). I sighed, picked the poop up, sat Frankie down, and told him not to move while I changed George?s (my 2-year-old) poopy diaper. Did I mention I love mornings"

I?m sure you can guess what happened. In the middle of dealing with George squirming all over while I try to quickly wipe his butt, Frankie runs out of the bathroom and starts running around me screaming, and doing things that I would imagine to be similar to moves of an exotic dancer.
Worried he would get feces all over our new-ish carpet, I did what any sane parent would -- I blindly swatted at him as he ran around me.
Feeling slightly victorious upon making contact, I immediately knew something just wasn?t quite right. Instead of hearing a sweet little slap of skin-on-skin and feeling a gentle sting, I heard nothing and felt something a little wet.
You got it. I tried spanking my child and got a hand full of crap.
