The post-c-section complication I shouldn?t have ignored

Pretty much everything about my fourth pregnancy followed Murphy?s Law. My water broke just before midnight on New Year?s Eve. Which wouldn?t be a huge deal, but my husband and I live 2.5 hours from the hospital and were forced to battle blizzard-like condition as well as bad (and probably drunk) drivers. But, that?s a whole other story.

Back to this story. Being it was New Year?s Eve, my doctor was, of course, on vacation. As the surgeon on call started to wheel me into the operating room for my fourth c-section, she said, ?So, are we tying those tubes up then"?
Before I could even answer, my mom blurted, ?Yes. Yep, tie them up!?
I smiled sweetly at my mother and said, ?No. Not this time.? The surgeon looked at me like a crazed person, ?Well, you know your chances of developing placenta accreta after a fourth cesarean section go right through the roof!?
I asked her calmly, ?What is that"?
Taking full advantage of informing an ignorant patient the surgeon explained that placenta accreta, increta, and percreta are conditions in which the placenta either attaches itself to the uterus -- or worse, actually grows through and attaches to surrounding organs.
Having had semi-uneventful recoveries from my previous c-sections, and the fact that my doctor was obviously not too concerned about this particular condition, I responded, ?I think I will pass this time and wait and talk to Molly (my doctor and girlf...
