To the woman working in the clothing store: Please don't ask my size

Yesterday I did something most moms wouldn't dare. I took three kids with me to shop for a dress for a wedding. I know. But I was hoping the shopping gods would be smiling upon me, and in the few moments I had before my girls lost their patience to shop for something that wasn't for them, or destroyed the store, I would magically find the perfect dress that fit, flattered, and didn't cost a fortune. Unfortunately, like other recent hopes I've had for my life, this wasn't meant to be.
The moment I walked into the store with my children trailing behind me, a woman working there made a beeline for us, and my heart sank. I'd so wanted this shopping trip to be anonymous, with me meandering among the racks, shushing my girls, and then, slipping into the dressing room unnoticed to try on a few things. Instead, this woman proceeded to make a big show out of introducing herself, asking my name, and chatting loudly and importantly with each of my kids. Then, what were we there for" Was I looking for anything in particular" A dress for a wedding! Oh, well we have this, and this, and this. And then, she asked me the one question I wasn't prepared to answer: "What size are you""
