Traveling to Europe" Get a measles vaccine

If you?re planning a trip to Europe, make sure your children are up-to-date on their shots and have been vaccinated against measles before you go.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning all travelers to Europe, as well as other international destinations, to get vaccinated against measles if they haven?t had the vaccine or the infection in the past. That means even you and your partner may need a measles vaccine if you?re not already protected.
Measles, which is highly contagious, has spread rapidly in Europe in recent months. More than 14,000 cases have been reported since January, 2016, and 35 people across Europe have died from the disease in the past year, the CDC reports.
So far in 2017, measles has cropped up in 15 European countries, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. These are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
The CDC recommends children 6 months and older get vaccinated against measles before traveling abroad. If your baby is younger than 6 months, talk to your doctor.
