Two new baby bottles with interesting tricks
by Joyce Slaton posted in Products & Prizes
Baby bottles are one of those things that are tough to buy, because though some babies have fierce preferences as to which bottle or nipple they'll take, they pretty much all look alike to the naked eye. Oh, this one will claim to have a more breast-like shape, or that one will advertise how comfortable it is to hold. But there's rarely a bottle innovation that makes me want to write about it.
But the BornFree Breeze (Buybuybaby, $10.99) and the Bare Air-Free (Babiesrus,$14.99) bottles, now, these are pretty cool.
The Breeze's innovation is a lot easier to explain so let me start there. Most anti-colic bottles at least 3 pieces: bottle, nipple, and nipple collar. A simplified anti-colic bottle has a vent built into the nipple; a less-simple one also has a separate vent. It wouldn't matter if it had 900 pieces if you just put a bottle together and left it that way forever, but you must dissemble it, wash it, dry it, and put it back together before using it again. The more pieces, the more chances you have to lose or break something, and the more micro-annoyance of getting each piece together properly.
The Breeze just has two pieces: bottle, and nipple/collar combo.
The anti-colic vent is built right into the nipple/collar. See" Here it is!
Upside: Easier to wash, assemble, and keep track of.
Downside: You won't be able to switch in nipples from other brands, or easily find nipples at any drugstore or grocery.
