Valentine trail mix: An easy, healthy snack
by Laura Falin posted in Life & Home
There's something about trail mix that just makes it seem healthy. It's the word "trail," isn't it" It conjures up ideas of eating your mix while hiking through the Rocky Mountains using one of those fancy walking sticks, rather than sitting on the couch scarfing it down in your pjs like I normally do. Seriously, though, you could combine 12 types of candy and if you called it trail mix, I'd probably feel pretty good about it.
This stuff really is healthy for you, though. Yes, it's got a little candy in it, but it's got other good things in there. And it will give you energy if you do happen to be traipsing through the mountains, or going on a playdate, or hosting a Valentine's Day party for a bunch of kids (which requires the most energy of all). Actually, I think this would be great for parties, because kids usually get plenty of candy, cupcakes, and other sugar at those already. It would be nice to add in some things like dried fruits and granola for them to have, too. I'd serve it in some cute little red cups, so germy hands aren't all in the trail mix bowl at once. Good stuff.
Ingredients:
2 c granola cereal
1 c Valentine M&Ms
1/2 c yogurt-covered raisins
1/2 c dried cranberries (craisins)
Instructions:
Measure all ingredients into a large bowl, and stir. Serve in cute little bowls or cups.
