Video: Proof that childbirth doesn't need to be awful

Before giving birth myself, I'd only ever witnessed it once, and that was on a video that was shown during our prenatal classes. I watched it with one eye closed, cringing as that poor mom writhed, moaned and screamed her way through one wave of contractions after another. It was eye-opening, that's for sure, not to mention terrifying. One expectant mother in our class was so disturbed that she burst into tears, her head buried in her pregnancy pillow as she ran out of the room.
There are a lot of words to describe childbirth - miraculous, awesome, painful - but "peaceful" generally isn't one of them.
Until now.
I recently came across this birth video, shot by Australian birth photographer Samantha Smith of Laine Pictures & Film, on Instagram. I was memorized. It's unlike any depiction of childbirth I've ever seen: Peaceful, calm, soothing even. And just breathtakingly beautiful.

Mom Rebecca Robson tells BabyCenter that the home birth of her second baby, daughter Evie Willow, was every bit as positive as it looks in the video above: "It really was an incredible experience...I had to keep pinching myself it just felt so unreal," she says.
