We are absolutely devastated to send our kids back to school

Gotcha.
Our first day back was today and this is part of my mom tribe, gathered in the school parking lot, showing our true feelings. (There may have been some mimosas after...)
Don't get me wrong, these are some of the best moms I know. Many of us still have a toddler or preschooler at home, so it's not like we're eating bonbons, but the first day of school brings a welcome return to routine. It also brings relief from being a short-order cook, live entertainment, and a constant referee. We love these roles -- we actually cherish them despite their monotony -- and we also love it when they ease up a bit.
I spent the day completely focused on my 4-year-old, who was often just "along for the ride" this summer with his older siblings. We had a playdate with the neighbors, went out to lunch, had a nap and then popsicles with friends. I had a chance to listen...really listen...to him and hear the funny nuances of his speech and emotions ("My heart is cracked, mama" after a friend made him sad or "By the way, did you know it's 92 days 'til my birthday""). Is it wonderful to have all the kids home for summer" It's amazing. Is it just as wonderful to send them back to school" Absolutely.
May your first days also include a jump for joy, even if it's only on the inside!
How do you feel about the first day of school"
