Anyone who's watched HGTV knows that the first thing to go in a fixer-upper is the carpet. I think my husband began ripping out the mauve (yes, pink!) carpet the day we signed closing documents. We now have beautiful restored hardwood floors, but they've proven a little treacherous for my 8-month-old, who is just figuring out crawling.
I have looked for other cushioned solutions, but I wouldn't want any of them as the focal point in my living room. We already have a playroom for my daughter. It's not like we keep polished silver in our cupboards, but I don't want a living-room themed with primary colors either. I love the subdued colors and themes in the Lorena Canals line. We got our rug just before Christmas and it turned out to be the perfect kid-friendly spot to open presents. It covered a good-sized area and I wasn't worried when I found ice-melt and spit-up on it because the extra nice thing about this rug is that you can wash it. In your washing machine!
