When things don't go according to your birth plan

"Birth plans" are never set in stone. Tim, my first baby, took 36 hours of labor and three trips to the hospital before he decided to actually show up (he's now 14, and he's still that slow, but that's a post for another day.)
So when my water broke with Baby #2, I drove myself to the doctor, admitted myself into the hospital, and called my husband with a calm, "Hey. So I'm here. Find someone to watch Tim and come on over," then I got my book, lay down on the bed, and waited. And waited. And waited.
A few hours later, as the contractions were coming fast and hard, I called him again. He was on the bus. THE BUS. He'd cleaned the house, met with a contractor, finally dropped our son off with friends, then decided to take the frigging bus because I'd driven and we really didn't need two cars at the hospital. He was oblivious to the fact that I was laboring hard with no one around except the occasional nurse popping in. He seemed surprised and pointed out that it had only been six hours since I called him. "Get. Here. Now," I growled. Less than an hour after he arrived, the baby was born.
