Why birth photography" 20 birth photographers answer that question
by Melissa Willets posted in Pregnancy
Monday was Birth Photography Day. To honor this, 20 birth photographers from all over America, as well as the UK, Uruguay, Canada, and Australia collaborated to put together a visually-stunning video which not only documents birth, but celebrates it, and answers the question: Why use a birth photographer"
Before you watch the video, which, warning, will make you cry under any of the following circumstances: you're hormonal 'cuz you're pregnant, you've given birth, someone you know has given birth, or you're breathing; ask yourself whether you think birth deserves to be captured in photos.
For me, the answer is definitely "yes." Although I have never used a birth photographer, my husband has always been on hand to snap pictures of what I consider to be one of the most important moments in life. More life-changing than getting married. More powerful than any other experience being alive has to offer, really. A moment you want to relive again and again. Thus, birth photography. The photographers featured in the powerful video list countless reasons why birth deserves to be immortalized on film. One that really resonates with me is that when women see what they accomplished after-the-fact, it may help with any negative feelings they are experiencing postpartum.
It's worth remembering that even though you have a squishy belly, and bags under your eyes, you friggin' gave birth to a human! You are awesome! You rule!
