Why do I third-person myself when talking to my child"

I?d never consciously refer to myself in the third person. Not because I have an abnormal love of pronouns. Rather, it just sounds ridiculous to me.
Think about it. How it would actually sound if I went about my day doing this" Essentially using my point of view to narrate all interactions.
To my husband as he leaves for work: ?Becky loves you and hopes you have a good day.?
To the barista at my local coffee shop: ?Becky will have a latte with coconut milk, please.?
To my friend: ?Becky would like to grab lunch with you.?
It sounds absurd, don?t you think" The thought of speaking this way throughout my day makes me cringe. Yet I always refer to myself in the third person when speaking to my son. Always.
It's not intentional. I actually didn?t realize I was doing it until I caught myself weeks after he was born saying, "Mommy is going to see if Daddy will change your diaper." But I do it constantly. He basically came out of my body and it started, immediately. ?Mommy loves you, honey,? was among the first things I said to him. Not ?I love you.? Mommy does. Third person.
It?s just continued from there. Do you want to go to the park with Mommy" Would you like Mommy to make you a snack" Don?t laugh at Mommy?s belly, it looks that way because of you.
I hear other moms doing the same thing. Though I have to confess, I?m sometimes self-conscious when I meet someone new and it slips out. For a brief moment I wond...
