Why SAHMs are adding "The Pregnancy Pause" to their resumes

It's no secret parental leave in the U.S. sucks. After welcoming a child, new parents -- if they meet certain criteria -- are eligible for up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave through the Family and Medical Leave Act. But that's not enough. Not even close.
For some women, leaving their jobs to be a stay-at-home mom was part of the plan all along. But because new moms aren't guaranteed adequate, paid time to recover from childbirth, bond with their new children, and get used to the demands of motherhood, many women who had planned on returning to work feel pressured into leaving their jobs. Whether women are SAHMs by choice or by necessity, time spent at home raising children can leave gaps in their resumes once they're ready to re-join the work force. Unfortunately, these gaps can be viewed negatively by potential employers. The Pregnancy Pause is working to change this.
A project by Mother New York, The Pregnancy Pause offers a way to fill moms' resume gaps and also raises awareness for the sorry state of U.S. parental leave policies. Including it in your LinkedIn profile can be done in a few simple steps, as outlined by ThePregnancyPause.org:
