Why this woman's tattoo after a miscarriage has gone viral

When Joan Bremer's first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at nearly 7 weeks along, the 31-year-old from California wanted a way to remember the child she lost.
Just a few days after a doctor confirmed her worst fears, Bremer decided to get a symbolic tattoo on her arm. Her beautiful tribute quickly went viral after she posted a photo of the finished artwork on Imgur,
And it isn't hard to see why. The tattoo -- drawn by Joey at California Electric Tattoo in Soquel, CA -- features a single line that represents an umbilical cord and two hearts that are mom and baby.
"I had a miscarriage two weeks ago," she wrote. "And I got this to remember the baby that wasn't meant to be."
Take a peek:
If Bremer and her husband go on to have a rainbow baby, she plans on adding one to her design. Likewise, if she experiences another miscarriage, she will likely add another heart.
"Losing a baby, even if it's early in pregnancy, is just so difficult," Bremer told Today."For me, it was healing to be able to speak about it. I know there is a certain silence about miscarriages and pregnancy losses, but I am not ashamed that this happened to me. That was one of my motivations for getting the tattoo in the first place ? I really think it's healing to be able to talk about it."
Hundreds of strangers have shared their condolences and similar experiences with Bremer since the photo was posted.
