Why we don't take vacations with our kids

Before kids, my husband and I would travel to a warm location about once a year. We'd show up at the airport at the crack of dawn and we'd be on the beach, margarita in hand before noon. Those vacations were always relaxing and we'd come back home bronzed, refreshed, and ready to take on the world again.
Flash-forward to traveling with kids and it's a different story. Next week, we're about to head on a 14-hour road trip to Myrtle Beach with all 4 kids. It will be our first road trip as a family of 6. As excited as we are, I wouldn't really call it a vacation. Traveling with kids = a TRIP.
Let me explain.
A trip is where you go somewhere and spend time. You explore the area and have fun, but it's not leisurely like a vacation. Don't you agree" While there might be a few moments of down time, with 4 kids you are always on your toes. Plus, since it's a condo, I'll be cooking a majority of our meals to save money. You better believe we are going to eat some seafood though!
Vacation = no schedule, sleep in. Trip = Up at 6 a.m. with the kids.
Don't get me wrong, we are SO EXCITED to get away for a week, but it's still going to be a lot of work. We will return exhausted with mountains of dirty clothes, sand in every corner of the van and kids who have been together for 8 days straight.
