Alicia Keys isn't just going makeup-free to the grocery store, she's turned up everywhere from the MTV VMAs to morning television without so much as mascara on. Some are applauding her decision, but others find her being vocal about why she's quit covering up to be aggravating.
It all started back in May, when the 35-year-old wrote a Lenny Letter about previously feeling she "was not good enough for the world to see," and her mind was constantly filled with "insecure, superficial, but honest thoughts."
"Before I started my new album, I wrote a list of all the things that I was sick of," she explained. "And one was how much women are brainwashed into feeling like we have to be skinny, or sexy, or desirable, or perfect. One of the many things I was tired of was the constant judgment of women." After some soul-searching, the mother of two concluded: "I don?t want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing."
Impressively, Alicia Keys has stuck by her word no matter where she's performing.
Fellow mom Nicole Richie recently spoke out about agreeing with Alicia, although Nicole often still gets dolled up for events.
