Would you decorate your baby's nursery with placenta artwork"
by Melissa Willets posted in Parenting
You've heard of placenta encapsulation, placenta smoothies, and even planting your placenta. Now meet the mom who turned her afterbirth into placenta artwork to hang in her son's nursery.
New Mexico mama Michelle Amaya-Schmidt explained to Kidspot about her decision to feature placenta prints in baby Asher's room, "I had a miscarriage two years ago at 10 weeks, so giving birth to Asher was all the more special."
She added, ?I wanted to catalogue every aspect of his birth and remember it forever -- and that included making a print."
Here's what was actually involved in making the prints: Michelle gave her placenta to her midwife, who then pressed it onto white paper. The result is framed in a series of pieces in Asher's nursery, surrounded by other special mementos from his arrival, including his little hand and foot prints and sonogram photos. Michelle, who says she is "delighted" by her placenta prints, admits that some people find it a bit bizarre. "But I explained to them what it is and why I did it, and now they think it?s kind of cool."
I'll include myself in that group! After my own recent pregnancy loss, I understand this mom's urge to celebrate every darn thing about her rainbow baby, Asher. I can only imagine I will feel the same way when I am lucky enough to be in her shoes, embracing new life after crushing loss.
Will I hang placenta art in my home, specifically" Not sure....
