When you do your holiday shopping for your kids, do you try to buy the same number of gifts per child or spend the same amount of money per child"
IÂ grew up in a family where I don't think my parents paid attention. One year my brother wanted a snowboard, so Santa brought that Christmas morning along with ski goggles, snowboarding boots, and new snow pants. Snowboarding wasn't cool yet. It was the early 90's and only starting to become mainstream, and I thought my brother was the coolest guy in the world.
That was the year I got a new coloring set filled with crayons, coloring pencils and pastels. Oh, how I loved pastels! I knew Santa brought "more" for my brother, but I felt happy for him that he got the snowboard he wanted. I never felt jealous or like Santa wasn't fair. I can't figure out if I didn't care because my parents filled our tree with presents from them too or because my brother is four years older than me or simply because I am not a jealous person.
Today I feel like so many moms or present-buyers worry about making sure everything is even and fair. I don't really think about that with my kids, much like I imagine my mom didn't either.
This is the first year I did think about the impact of my gifts on my children. I originally planned on giving our 3-year-old lip gloss, a doll and a doll stroller.
