6 ways to increase your chances of getting pregnant
Some relatively simple lifestyle changes could be standing between you and a positive reading on a pregnancy test. We asked Clifford Librach, founder and director of the Create Fertility Centre and an professor in the department of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Toronto, for his advice on boosting the odds of conception. Read on for five tips that are proven to make a difference.
1. Get to a healthy body weight
If you need to lose a few pounds, now is the best time to do it. Being overweight can negatively impact your chances of getting pregnant, and being underweight, especially if you have irregular periods, can also cause problems, says Librach. That?s because fat cells are related to estrogen production and if you have too much or too little, it can throw off the hormones involved in ovulation. Being overweight also increases your risk of insulin resistance, which can disrupt ovulation. And in men, obesity is linked with lower testosterone levels and impaired sperm quality. Talk to your doctor if you or your partner believe your weight might be an issue. They?ll be able to discuss strategies with you for getting to a healthier weight range for baby-making. The good news is that, if you?re obese, losing even 10 to 20 pounds can boost your overall health and may improve your chances of conception. .related-article-block{display:inline-block;width:300px;padding:0.5rem;margin-left:0.5rem;float:right;border:1px solid #ccc}@media (max-width: 525px){.related...
