9 ways to deal with back labour
Labour is generally known as a grueling experience. But for some women, the pain of labour is felt strongly in the lower back and can be particularly intense. Back labour is sometimes a result of the baby facing forward, looking toward your stomach instead of your spine. ?As the uterus contracts and squeezes, the baby?s back and spine can press against mom?s spine,? says Laurie Hintzen, a midwife at Diversity Midwives in Scarborough, Ont. The pain can come and then go, as the baby rotates and descends the birth canal. However some women experience back labour even when the baby is in the optimal face-down position. ?Get on your hands and knees,? suggests Hintzen. ?This can help the baby rotate, and also relieves pressure on your lower back.? 2. Switch positions
Go through five contractions lying on your side, five your hands and knees, then five on the other side. ?This can also encourage the baby to move,? says Hintzen.
