The second year of A-level results where exams have been cancelled due to Covid restrictions has seen the number of top grades being awarded to pupils at a record high
Nearly half of all A-level students collecting A-level exam results received A* or A with 44 per cent of UK entries receiving a top mark. The total number of students accepted on to a degree course has risen by five per cent on last year.
Because of the pandemic, this year, the A-level exam results have been awarded by teachers? estimates. A combination of coursework, mock exams and essays have been used to determine teachers? grades.
Head teachers have had to sign off the results, saying there was evidence to back them up. To ensure consistency, some exam boards requested a sample of student work to be submitted. Reasons to appeal your A-level exam results
If you think you were awarded the incorrect grade then you can appeal via your school or college.
Check whether your school or college has made a mistake. If that is the case a revised grade will be sent to the exam board.
If the school confirms the grade but the student still feels it is wrong, then you can ask for an appeal. However, be warned as the exam board may award a higher or lower grade than the one you were given on results day.
The deadline to submit an appeal in England is 17th September. There is an earlier deadline of 23rd August for priority appeals for example if a student’s grade has meant they miss out on their first choice univers...
