A-level success is continuing to soar in independent schools, as boys narrowly outperform girls for the first time in 17 years

A* and A grades have been awarded to 26.3 per cent of A-level entries, an increase of 0.5 percentage points compared with last year

What is different about this year’s A-level results"
There have been some changes to the A-level qualifications in England this year. Under the new system, students sit all their A-level exams at the end of two years of study. Reformed subjects that underwent the new system this year were art and design, biology, business, chemistry, computer science, economics, English language, English language and literature, English literature, history, physics, psychology and sociology.
Modular exams have been eliminated, and AS-level results now no longer count to A-level grades. All subjects have a minimum coursework component of 20 per cent, as most will be assessed entirely through exams.
Students will still able to take resits, but will have to wait until May/June of the following year after January exams were scrapped.
